Job Purpose:

The Assistant Performance Coach is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of an effective tennis coaching programme, working with players in school years 9 to 13. The Assistant Performance Coach will support the development of players of all ages, positioning Millfield at the forefront of tennis development in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coaching Millfield’s Development group tennis players throughout the year.
  • Leading the coaching of Development group tennis players and assisting on the programmes of Competition group tennis players.
  • Planning and coaching individual and group sessions where required and ensuring diligent communication to players’ parents.
  • Supporting players via Performance Analysis and Individual Performance Plans.
  • Supporting the on-site competitive programme for Millfield students through effective planning & delivery of LTA competitions.
  • Helping develop an effective coaching structure and scheme of work that will aid the development of teacher-coaches.
  • Attend specified competitions as agreed with the Director of Tennis. This will require overnight trips away with the team.
  • Helping to set up and run tournament trips/tours appropriate for various player groups, providing opportunities for the players to expand their experiences.
  • Contributing to and facilitating communication of tennis news and developments internally and externally, including within Millfield Sport, through the school’s media department, with parents,

    and within the broader tennis community.

  • Communicate effectively within all areas of Millfield life including pastoral, academic and co- curricular.
  • Engaging actively in continuous personal development and the development of Millfield Sport.
  • Any other duties that the Director of Tennis and/or the Director of Sport sees fit, providing that such duties are appropriate to the role.

Person Specification

The Assistant Performance Coach will have:

  • A high-level playing background (minimum 1st team University tennis and experience competing at national level).
  • A degree in sports coaching or a related discipline.
  • Successful experience of player development.
  • LTA Level 2 Tennis Coaching Qualification (essential).
  • LTA Level 3 Tennis Coaching Qualification (desirable).
  • A good level of current technical and tactical knowledge of the game with a passion to develop further.
  • The ability to plan, implement and adapt training sessions across a range of ages and abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and administrative skills.
