Job Description

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

The role

We are looking for a Dyno Car Technician who has the passion and determination to make an impact in our Dyno Team. The role will report into the Dyno Team Leader. Working collaboratively with team members you will be responsible for the build and service of car related hardware for dyno testing.

As our Dyno Test Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the preparation of all gearbox, hydraulics, clutch, fuel, engine, brake and sub-assembly systems for use across all dyno test beds ensuring that all procedures and quality checks are followed.
  • Ensure each build assembly is prepared in accordance with the build spec for that event and to the latest design specification.
  • Close collaboration with MGP Build department to ensure consistent methods, quality and follow up to issues found during testing.
  • Support engine dressing of the PU prior to an event.
  • Support the installation of car hardware test assemblies onto the test beds.
  • Manage the car part usage and lifting planning throughout the year ensuring required hardware is available for upcoming planned events and that required servicing schedules are completed in advance.
  • Manage the dyno car part inventory adhering to any required processes for compliance of the new FIA financial regulations.
  • Test event support for various processes required for the reliable operation of hardware (gearbox oil level setting, borescope, hydraulic bleed, hydraulic system pressurisation, brake bleed, brake measure).
  • Dyno operations event support (crane operating lift procedures, starter duties, refuelling)
  • Additional responsibilities within the Dyno department as required.
  • Management of oils and fluids within the test facility
  • Maintenance of build support equipment in accordance with MGP factory processes and procedures.
  • Support, service, and maintain all dyno car hydraulic system hardware (MPS units, brake robot)
  • Support, service, and maintain all dyno test bed sub-assemblies (driveshaft assemblies, PTO gearbox)
  • Reporting of faults with responsibility for the investigation, and resolution of build related issues.

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience and skills and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, enthusiasm, and curiosity. Additionally the candidate will have:

  • Significant mechanical experience working with recent F1 car build assemblies covering a variety of installations
  • Previous dyno or similar test environment experience would be beneficial
  • Close observational and reporting skills required for new concept installations
  • Hydraulics experience would stand you in-good-stead for this opportunity
