Job Purpose
The role will provide team leadership, line management, quality assurance, and mentoring for a team of Physiotherapists to work collaboratively with coaches, players, and the performance team to provide world class athlete health support in achieving the club’s mission.
This post will contribute to MCWFC success by leading a team to provide world class, proactive injury prevention, injury management, and injury rehabilitation that supports player availability and successful return to play enabling the team to consistently compete for major trophies.
The role will provide team leadership, line management, quality assurance, and mentoring for a team of Physiotherapists to work collaboratively with coaches, players, and the performance team to provide world class athlete health support in achieving the club’s mission.
Role specific accountabilities:
- Lead and manage the planning, delivery and review of physiotherapy and soft tissue provision to MCWFC in line with the MCWFC Performance Services Strategy.
- Line manage and supervise MCWFC Physiotherapists & Soft Tissue Therapist to ensure club-wide alignment to the Performance Services Strategy.
- Lead, manage, co-ordinate and deliver a proactive approach to injury management in collaboration with other MCWFC Performance Services and in-line with best practice.
- Lead and manage the development and ongoing delivery of evidence-informed rehabilitation/return to play provision that minimises time lost to injury and minimises chances of re-injury
- Lead the development and delivery of proactive approaches to injury prevention that align to the MCWFC Performance Services strategy in collaboration with other MCWFC Performance Services.
- Lead & manage the use of specialists and contractors to support ongoing injury prevention, management, rehabilitation provision.
- Oversee ongoing best-practice injury surveillance contributing to consistent reporting to key stakeholders.
- Work in partnership with the MCWFC Doctor to ensure medical Emergency Action Plans are kept up to date and effective.
- Ensure excellent standards of clinical governance including databasing, record keeping and injury /illness auditing across MCWFC medical services in a consistent and timely fashion.
Role specific knowledge, skills and experience:
Essential:
- A recognised Physiotherapy qualification (eg. Undergraduate degree)
- Postgraduate qualification in Sports Injury Rehabilitation, Strength & Conditioning, or other related and supporting area
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Hold an up-to-date advanced emergency pitch-side qualification (eg ATMMiF or equivalent)
- Extensive experience working in an elite sporting environment, with experience of leading on the rehabilitation of common and complex injuries.
- Significant experience in a ‘lead’ role with responsibility for strategic delivery, clinical change, line management and mentoring of a team of practitioners
- Highly developed knowledge and technical skillset in physiotherapy and rehabilitation in a high performance environment (including training adaptation, injury/illness risk management, confidence in assessment and clinical judgment etc).
- An advanced ability to develop excellent relationships with key stakeholders (Players, Coaches, wider MDT) that enable challenge, support and trust in the Physiotherapy support provided.
- An ability to reflect on current working practice & adapt as required.
- An ability to utilise performance related data to inform practice
Desirable:
- Experience working with elite female athletes/in Women’s sport.
- Experience working in elite professional football.
- Strength & Conditioning education/training
- Previous training in coaching &/or mentoring
