Main Area of Responsibility:
The appointed person will lead the rugby development of Senior Academy Players (aged 18-23). Ensuring individual, positional, unit and team (tactical) elements of performance are developed through accurate coaching interventions, playing opportunities and review processes.
They will support coaches and players in the Academy and Junior Academy to ensure consistent high-quality coaching and playing programmes throughout the Development Pathway of the club.
Key tasks:
- Be the key point of contact for designated Senior Academy players.
- To work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure that every player is receiving the rugby interventions required to maximise their current performance and future potential.
- To lead on the creation and delivery of individual development plans and playing programmes.
- Deliver and support player lifestyle / education workshops.
- To lead the delivery of coaching to the Academy (16-18) programme via central Academy sessions and outreach work at partner schools.
- To provide assistance the 1st XV coaching group as required and support selected senior academy players within 1st XV sessions.
- Lead the Academy and Junior Academy coaches with a focus on driving standards of coaching.
- To commit to a programme of watching contracted players (at school and on loan) and scouting of potential new players.
- To carry out any other duties and tasks required by management, which are within the post-holder’s capabilities.
Essential Skills:
- Expertise in coaching and developing aspiring professional rugby players.
- Ability to challenge, support and ultimately up skill coaches and support staff.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, players’, parents’ and partner organisations.
- Experience as head coach of a team in a competitive programme.
- Be self-motivated and able to manage a large workload in a pressurised environment.
- Strong administration and organisation skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Flexibility to work long and unsociable hours including travel.
Desirable skills / Qualifications:
- Experience of playing / coaching professional rugby.
- RFU Level 4 Qualified.
- Mentoring Qualification / experience.
- Experienced lineout and / or scrum coach.
- Knowledge of Analysis software and experience of constructing engaging, educational reviews.
