About the role

This role is an exciting opportunity for a senior and respected communications professional to play a part in helping the LTA achieve its vision of ‘tennis opened up’, and through our work to make tennis relevant, accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable, help us to ensure it is a sport that can be played by anyone, no matter their age, gender, background, or ability.

Tennis is a sport that is woven into the fabric of the nation, and as the national governing body the LTA is at the heart of that – from inspiring and engaging the millions of passionate fans who follow leading British players and world class tournaments, through to supporting the grassroots of the sport which reach into local communities across Britain to help get the nation active and deliver amazing physical and mental health benefits to those involved.

The Head of Strategic Communications will play a leading role in managing the reputation of the LTA with the public and key stakeholders both within and outside tennis. The role will be responsible for identifying target audiences and building a communications programme to build advocacy for and engagement with the LTA and its programmes. It is expected to lead on delivering a wide range of pro-active communications campaigns to a variety of audiences.

This is a key role in the team and will sit alongside the Head of Media and Head of Public Policy. It will work across the business with involvement and understanding of all aspects of the LTA’s work to ensure effective communications to multiple audiences.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with the Head of Corporate Affairs to implement the communications strategy to build trust in, and advocacy for, the LTA and increase public engagement with its programmes and events.
  • Management of the Strategic Communications team.
  • Responsibility for managing a communications grid and planning system. Also working closely with the Brand Marketing team and other colleagues in order to ensure cross business planning and coordination is of the highest standard to serve all audience needs.
  • Responsibility for both personally leading on and managing others to write and implement high-profile communications campaigns and projects.
  • Overseeing the production of reputation driving content, including written copy for website articles, press releases and publications, and video content for LTA channels (and broader stakeholders including media) in collaboration with channel owners and supporting production partners.
  • Responsibility for ensuring up to date briefing information is available to the wider organisation and this document is updated regularly
  • Leading on the communications planning and delivery to support the LTA’s Inclusion Strategy
  • Develop and implement a communications plan to support the LTA’s facility investment strategy
  • Researching and drafting briefings, speeches and correspondence for LTA Board and Executive members.
  • Building relationships within the LTA, the wider tennis community and beyond to help understand audiences and priorities.
  • Work with Corporate Affairs colleagues on stakeholder mapping and management work to promote the LTA and its work and grow the sport
  • Measurement and evaluation of campaigns and activity to ensure best practice.
  • Manage key contractors, external agencies and suppliers and related project budgets as required.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to deliver agreed projects to time and budget.
