Kells Swimming Club are seeking applications for a new Head Coach.

The Head Coach has a key role to play in defining the vision and strategy for the club and contributing to its ongoing success and is responsible for the overall organisation, management and development of the club coaching and teaching programme across all squads.

As well as coaching, the position will require providing leadership to swimmers, teachers, volunteers and parents to facilitate swimmers to reach their full potential.

About the Club:

Kells SC was established in 1976, and is based in the town of Kells, Co. Meath. Membership is approximately 200+ swimmers, from the age of five upwards. The Club provides swimming skills development and training opportunities for all levels of swimmers from beginner to competitive level.

The club is seeking a new Head Coach who will continue to nurture our all-inclusive ethos and provide a positive and constructive swimming environment for all our members, whilst developing and leading competitive and non-competitive programmes and swimming squads. The Club has a progressive and enthusiastic volunteer committee who will support the Head Coach.

Duties:

  • Provide a safe and positive environment for all Kells Swimming Club members.
  • Be a positive role model, motivating and encouraging members and ensuring all swimmers, at all levels, are coached and trained to meet their full potential • Work with, support and mentor all coaches, teachers and poolside helpers.
  • Develop an education strategy to enhance existing coaching skills and develop long term capacity.
  • Develop and oversee a positive and inspiring coaching programme for all squads, specifically relating to the long-term development and continuation of an effective squad structure.
  • Monitor swimmers’ progress and advise and co-ordinate progression and transition of all swimmers within the squad structure (in conjunction with the other teachers).
  • Produce the annual competition and training plan for all club squads to provide an appropriate selection of events and opportunities for the swimmers to compete.
  • Actively encourage members to take part in competitions and put effective programs in place to maximise performances at these competitions
  • Attend swim meets at all levels and provide swimmers with feedback and guidance to improve and use the feedback given to guide the planning of future coaching and teaching goals
  • Work with and support the Committee in the development and running of the Club, attending committee meetings as needed
  • Developing positive relationships with parents and swimmers through effective (two-way) communication
  • Comply with the rules and procedures of both Swim Ireland and Kells Swimming Club
  • Fully comply with all safeguarding and CPD requirements of Swim Ireland

Skills:

  • Hard working and passionate about swimming
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of stroke mechanics and training principles
  • Self-motivated and the ability to motivate others
  • Approachable, organised and punctual
  • Ability to competently communicate with coaches, swimmers, volunteers and parents and lead coaches and teachers working in the Club

Qualifications:

  • Swim Ireland Level 3 Coach or Swim Ireland Level 2 Coach working towards attaining Level 3 Coaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all levels of swimmer development from Learn to Swim to competing at National Level, and knowledge and understanding of additional training requirements such as land training, nutrition, stretching and conditioning.
  • Swim Ireland or Sport Ireland Safeguarding Level 1 Certificate
  • Garda Vetted Swim Ireland
  • Ideally a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a similar role
