Job Purpose

Assist evidence-based decision making and performance improvement within HPSNZ and National Sports Organisations by producing qualitative and quantitative research.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build and grow relationships as an active ‘learning partner’ for NSO High Performance Leaders, providing guidance and support for implementing performance learning initiatives in systematic ways.
  • Design and conduct short-term and longitudinal research projects, using qualitative and quantitative approaches, to uncover patterns that will inform pinnacle event preparation and performance planning.
  • Uncover and validate patterns, behaviours, and interventions that best support elite sport performance and accelerate sport development.
  • Conduct qualitative analysis on structured text, utilising manual coding and machine-learning methods.
  • Utilise a relational database to store, clean, query, analyse, and interact with data; including sourcing and incorporating external data sets.
  • Utilise data visualisation tools to present complex stories.
  • Produce written research reports that clearly and accurately communicate insights and trends, and present research to respective groups as necessary.
  • Research existing qualitative and quantitative data and literature for emerging patterns and insights that are relevant to high performance sport.
  • Proactively seek out and lead opportunities and collaborations with internal and external research and expertise to enhance Knowledge Edge’s insights on high performance preparation and performance.
  • Incorporate domain knowledge and ensure best-practice research methodologies and data analytics are implemented and advanced through ongoing R&D.
  • Mentor, assist, and support Intelligence team members (and/or applicable HPSNZ staff) on data analysis and research methods.
