The Head of Player Development for Women's and Girls football is a critical role to drive the development and support our high performance and Our Wales: For Her / Ein Cymru: Amdani Hi strategies and work collaboratively to enable our senior team to consistently qualify for major tournaments in the future.


  1. Work closely with the Senior Women and Girls Grassroots Manager to lead the Women & Girls working group to effectively deliver the Our Wales: For Her strategy.
  2. Effectively develop new relationships and opportunities for talented Welsh eligible players outside Wales by working closely with talent identification staff.
  3. Develop effective relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to develop all aspects of the player pathway including
    • *Girls Academy managers (North and South)
    • *Academy Directors/Managers across the UK
    • *Adran Premier league
    • *FIFA, UEFA, the ECA/European Leagues and other NA's
  • Develop internal relationships with Team operations, Grassroots football, Talent Identification and the high performance leadership team to leverage and connect Women’s and girl’s football across the association.
  • Support the development of the wider high performance strategy to ensure alignment and consistency across the player pathway.
  • Work with the Domestic Football team to advise and collaborate on effective structures for women and girls playing in the FAW pyramid.
  • Develop high potential support services, through regular player audits and integrating the relevant disciplines within the player pathway.
  • Effectively manage and lead pathway coaches to integrate all disciplines and alignment of the Welsh Way across all pathway teams.
  • Working with the relevant football staff to support the leadership and management of the women’s international coaches from U15s – U19s.
  • Deliver all elite Women and Girls development programmes effectively and efficiently with a planned annual budget.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Football Officer, represent the FAW at stakeholder events to support the growth of women's and girls football.
  • Develop relevant research and insights to drive high performance and best practice across the women's and girls game in Wales.
  • Work with the FAW Chief Commercial and Engagement Officer to develop and deliver a holistic communication strategy for the Women and Girls pathway in Wales.


Qualification and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years working across a technical programme with elite youth youth players in either a professional club and or national association.
  • UEFA A’ Licence

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours

  • A passion and motivation for the development of Women and Girls football in Wales.
  • A deep understanding of best practice in Women and Girls football development, including a broader understanding of best practice in player development and talent development.
  • A clear understanding of the Welsh football landscape and key partners to support the player pathway.
  • Experience in managing diverse teams effectively with effective leadership skills.
  • Leadership experience in managing technical and support staff.
  • Experience of managing key relationship between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of developing a delivering strategies within player development.
  • Proven track record in the delivery, development, and implementation of a high performing culture and environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in influencing decisions with all stakeholders across the game.
  • ​ Experience and understanding of the Women's and Girls game in Wales and in key international markets.


  • UEFA Pro Licence Diploma.
  • Undergraduate degree qualification or above.
  • Coach Educator | Mentor

Role Specific Information

  • The post holder will be required at times to perform their duties or additional work or attend training outside of normal office hours and/or in different locations, either domestically or internationally, at the discretion of the Chief Football Officer.
  • The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • All employees must provide proof of right to work in the UK.
  • Spoken and written Welsh are desirable.
