Role Summary

Working collaboratively across the interdisciplinary support team, the position will be accountable for leading the strategic development and evaluation of athlete health services across the WCP.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the overarching strategy and support of world-leading physiotherapy and athlete health service provision across the WCPP athlete groups and will oversee and where required lead the delivery of athlete management and rehabilitation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for improving performance through implementing, evaluating, and developing world-leading athlete health services in British Wheelchair Basketball.
  • Lead, manage and develop the operational delivery of athlete health services across British Wheelchair Basketball programme.
  • Utilise Athlete Health data and intelligence to mitigate injury and illness risk aligned to performance goals and aspirational targets.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the CMO, Coaches, Head of Performance Support and key club / performance programme partners and support teams to align health and performance strategic planning and coordinated delivery.
  • Provide advanced musculoskeletal services for athletes using specialist knowledge from extensive theoretical and practical experience in performance sport.
  • Work collaboratively with the CMO & PST to ensure medical governance standards are met to safeguard athlete physical health and support the delivery of the mental health strategy.
  • Provide a primary point of contact for all WCPP athletes and coaches for medical coordination, remote support and delivery within the UK and overseas
  • Lead and support the design and management of advanced and specialised rehabilitation services in collaboration with the performance and local support teams, coaches, and athletes to optimise athlete availability for training and competition.
  • Lead and support practitioners with innovative and evidence based approaches to improve ‘return to performance’ outcomes across the WCPP.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer to support athletes and coaches around classification procedures and protocols to ensure that WCPP athletes meet the IPC / IWBF rules and regulations and to support athlete classification processes internationally.
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of delivery, working within professional standards and clinical guidelines.
  • Comply with organisational and professional codes of conduct, standards, policies, and guidelines
