The Role:
The RFU is currently undertaking a once in a major programme of transformation, which will change how rugby is played, watched and engaged with for generations to come. We are looking for a skilled transformational manager who can ensure that the RFU delivers this agenda and maximises the opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Programme Management
- Execute transformation programmes: Manage the day-to-day execution of transformational initiatives, ensuring they align with the broader strategy.
- Project planning and delivery: Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones to guide the successful delivery of specific transformation projects.
- Monitor progress and performance: Track project progress against KPIs and report regularly to senior leadership on status, issues, and risks.
- Resource coordination: Ensure that project teams are effectively resourced and manage the allocation of personnel and budget within projects.
Change Management & Implementation
- Facilitate change initiatives: Support the implementation of organizational changes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
- Stakeholder communication: Act as a primary point of contact for stakeholders impacted by transformation projects, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
- Employee engagement and support: Assist in developing and delivering training and support materials to help staff adapt to new processes, systems, and ways of working.
- Feedback loop management: Gather and analyse feedback from stakeholders to inform continuous improvement of transformation initiatives.
Performance Improvement
- Identify improvement opportunities: Work with teams to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement within current processes.
- Implement process changes: Lead the execution of process improvement initiatives, ensuring that they meet project objectives and deliver measurable benefits.
- Standardize best practices: Help establish and document best practices across the organization to ensure consistency and quality.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with internal teams: Work closely with various departments to ensure alignment and collaboration on transformation initiatives.
- Manage external partners: Coordinate with external consultants, vendors, and other partners to ensure that their contributions align with project goals and timelines.
- Reporting and updates: Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on project status, highlighting successes, challenges, and next steps.
Risk and Issue Management
- Identify risks and issues: Proactively identify potential risks and issues within projects and develop mitigation strategies.
- Escalate critical issues: Ensure that any significant risks or issues are escalated to senior leadership in a timely manner for resolution.
- Document and manage dependencies: Track and manage project dependencies, ensuring that any potential conflicts or challenges are addressed early.
Data & Performance Analysis
- Data collection and analysis: Collect, analyse, and interpret data to measure the impact and effectiveness of transformation initiatives.
- Performance tracking: Use data-driven insights to track the performance of projects and suggest adjustments to improve outcomes.
- Reporting and documentation: Maintain accurate records of project performance and outcomes for reporting and future reference.
Budget Management & Benefits Realisation
- Support budget management: Assist in managing project budgets, ensuring that resources are used effectively and within financial constraints.
- Monitor financial performance: Track and report on project expenditures, identifying areas for cost savings or reallocations as needed.
- Cost-benefit analysis: Support the preparation of cost-benefit analyses to inform decision-making on transformation initiatives.
- Develop and joined up way to track benefits across the transformation programme
- Ensure that benefits are realised in a timely manner and progress communicated to key stakeholders
Team Coordination & Development
- Team collaboration: Work closely with project teams, ensuring that everyone is aligned and working towards common objectives.
- Mentorship and development: Provide guidance and support to junior team members, helping them develop their skills and understanding of transformation processes.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Foster collaboration across different departments and functions to ensure the success of transformation projects.
- Facilitate cross functional transformation meetings that create common standards and cultural alignment
Technology & Digital Transformation
- Support digital transformation efforts: Assist in the implementation and integration of new technologies that support transformation goals.
- Technology adoption: Help promote and facilitate the adoption of digital tools and platforms across the organization.
Other:
- Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
- Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
- Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential:
- Must demonstrate competence through previous relevant experience initiating and managing large digital transformational projects.
- Strong programme planning experience and ability to manage effectively within scope, timelines, budget and quality.
- Experience working in both agile and waterfall environments.
- Experience and knowledge of financial and management accounting.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills.
- Strong finance and accounting skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Good attention to detail and diligence.
- Having a can-do, problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure.
