Nature and scope:

The RFU, on behalf of Women’s Premier 15 Limited (WP15), a new company setup to own and operate the Allianz Premier 15s (AP15s) league, are recruiting for an innovative Business Development Manager to drive WP15s commercial partnership acquisition. This is an exciting role that would suit an individual who is not afraid to get into the detail and has a hands-on approach to sales.

WP15’s mission is to be the most competitive, progressive and sustainable domestic competition in the world. This new company, consisting of a small team working closely with AP15s clubs and the Rugby Football Union (RFU), will deliver the strategy, drive growth and lead the way in the development of professional women’s club rugby.

The role holder will work collaboratively with the CEO, and the Board, to identify and execute broader revenue generating opportunities across broadcast, OTT, digital, CRM, media, sponsorship and licensing. This will include the development of WP15s broadcasting strategy as well as creating new ways to engage with partners in order to generate value.

WP15 has set out an ambitious broadcasting and sponsorship revenue target which plays a major component in achieving its mission and a key objective of driving long-term financial sustainability within the competition.

Accountabilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the CEO to define WP15s commercial and business development strategy including partnership acquisition and management.
  • Working alongside the CEO, and other rugby rights holders, on future broadcast partnerships.
  • Creating a clear commercial strategy and narrative for the WP15s brand, sponsorship assets and core properties.
  • Driving the commercial sales process including developing a strong pipeline, broad network and significant partnerships.
  • Development of a full suite of bespoke and tailored sales materials, proposals and presentations to suit the needs of individual companies and partners.
  • Securing media partnerships that will generate revenue and deliver marketing support for WP15scampaigns.
  • Identification and analysis of new market trends that may create additional engagement, revenue opportunities or routes to market, i.e. technology, charity, wellness and women’s health.
  • Actively collaborating with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the wider strategic, business and operational plans.
  • Exploring areas of collaboration with other relevant rights holders including Premiership Rugby and the RFU.
  • Acting as an ambassador for and promoting the best interests of WP15s at all times, including the promotion of WP15s Core Values.
  • Undertaking such other duties as maybe required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of WP15s.

Person Specification

Qualifications, skills & experience:

  • Significant experience of undertaking the full sales process from the initial outreach right through to closing out and contracting of high value commercial deals. Rights holder experience preferential.
  • Proven experience and success in a high profile, demanding and fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Proven success at delivering against strategic objectives and driving revenue growth.
  • Proven track record of building valuable commercial relationships and the ability to influence and sell new concepts at a senior level.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills as well as strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrable track record of developing and sustaining internal relationships across multiple business units and departments to aid the scoping and packaging of commercial propositions.
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, ability to engage with sponsors, broadcasters and other commercial entities.
  • Results driven; thrives on challenge; action-orientated and pragmatic in approach.
  • An ability to construct best-in-class sales materials and presentations.
  • Understanding and utilisation of a CRM system to help deliver against specific business objectives.
  • Credible experience of effectively commissioning, utilising and analysing research and insight data to develop lead generation.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of sponsorship and sports marketing industry.
  • Financially literate with high commercial acumen.
