The Places and Spaces Officer will be an outstanding role model and advocate for netball, with a passion for breaking down barriers to participation and tackling inequalities in access to facilities. This is a new role introduced to support the ‘PlayZone’ multi-sport capital investment programme, which aims to increase participation amongst women and girls, disabled players and those living in deprived areas.

As netball’s lead for multi-sport facility projects, you’ll collaborate with our Partnerships and Delivery workforce, helping funding consortia to determine the location and design of multi-sport spaces that accommodate, inspire and welcome new audiences to our sport.

Working across the Development Department to unlock the game for more communities to enjoy, you’ll help to build our organisational knowledge of what works in hard-to-reach communities and ensure that our continuously evolving insight is shared with internal colleagues and external partners, in a way that leads to purposeful, impactful, and lasting change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as England Netball’s lead for ‘PlayZone’ multi-sport facility development projects, increasing the number and/or quality of places and spaces where netball programmes are delivered in areas of greatest need.
  • Work collaboratively with other National Governing Bodies of Sport and Sport England to seek out and share good practise in community engagement and co-design of places and spaces where recreational multi-sport programmes are delivered.
  • Contribute to the development of insight and resources that captures learning on what spaces work best for activating sport and physical activity in hard-to-reach neighbourhoods.
  • Attend multi-sport facility planning meetings, ensuring that England Netball is an active partner contributing towards the overall success of projects.
  • Work collaboratively with our appointed consultants to create netball demand data and mapping information to assist with the planning of multi sports facilities in targeted areas.
  • Collaborate with England Netball’s partnerships and delivery team to gain trust within communities where multi-sports facilities are being constructed and help shape the delivery of netball programmes activated post construction.
  • Work with the Strategic Lead for Disability and Inclusion and Insight team to review the social impact of each project and assess the contribution that netball is making to the health and wellbeing of residents taking part.
  • Be an outstanding member of the Development Department attending relevant internal team meetings, external meetings and collaborate with colleagues across the department and organisation to ensure we achieve our shared purpose.
  • Be an advocate of and apply the England Netball moral compass.
  • Be a guardian of our game, ensuring that it is a safe space for all participants.
  • Be dedicated to difference, role model consciously inclusive behaviours, embrace diversity and make netball a place where everyone can feel they belong.
  • Take personal ownership for continuous learning and development.
