Derby County Football Club, established in 1884, is one of the founder members of the English Football League and has a rich and varied history, including two First Division titles in 1972 and 1975 and an FA Cup success in 1946. The club are currently playing in League One, the third tier of English Football, and now under the management of recently appointed Head Coach Paul Warne. The club also boasts a successful and respected Category One Academy, a status which has been held since 2014. Derby County is embarking on an exciting new era following the recent change in ownership to Clowes Developments (UK) Limited. Our track record of producing talent is outstanding, and we intend to protect that proud legacy, investing in key roles within the club to build on the foundations in place for success.

The Head of Performance Analysis position is a pivotal role supporting the development of the integrated club-wide approach to providing data driven insights for performance evaluation, player recruitment, sports science and medicine. The Head of Performance Analysis will lead the performance analysis department to ensure a first-class provision of data analysis and reporting across both the First Team and the Academy.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to form good working relationships with integrity is key to this role. The successful candidate will have a keen eye and attention to detail whilst working to tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead, manage and coordinate the performance analysis department to ensure the timely provision of quality analysis data and reports for all professional players across the First Team and Academy, monitoring and tracking development using both objective and subjective data.
  • To design, develop and deliver accurate performance dashboards, reports, and insights, coupled with detailed trend analysis that meets the differing needs of coaching staff, support staff and players within the First Team, and support the analysis team’s delivery across all age groups within the Academy.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with other departments to support the creation and delivery of a high-performance positive culture across the whole club, consistent with the club’s core values.

Personal characteristics and experience:

  • Confident, resilient and self-motivated, with excellent communications and presentation skills, both verbal and written with excellent IT skills and knowledge of databases.
  • Confident and proficient user of a wide range of analysis software solutions such as Piero / Hudl / Sportscode / Wyscout / StatsBomb, with demonstrable knowledge of other performance analysis software
  • Experience in the manipulation of performance data sets and visualisations, with advanced coding ability
  • SQL and reporting capabilities, and working with raw data files such as Opta, F24 & TracAb would be desirable
  • Previous experience as a Head of Performance Analysis/ Senior Performance Analyst in an elite team sport setting, with line management responsibility
  • Ability to positively influence at all levels, adapting style to meet the needs of the audience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, target driven environment, multi-tasking calmly and effectively in high-stress situations

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in an appropriate discipline such as Performance Analysis or Sports Science

Desirable Qualifications

  • UEFA recognised coaching qualification
