Dalkeith RFC in partnership with Scottish Rugby seek to appoint a Rugby Development Officer to drive the growth of youth and junior rugby, in both the boys’ and girls’ gamein the local community. The Development Officer will have responsibility for the development and delivery of a rugby programme embedded in the local Secondary School andassociated targeted cluster Primary Schools. The Development Officer will play a key part in the continued development and growth of rugby in the local community and support the club youth rugby activities.

Role Details:

  • ▪ Full time, 35 hours per week.
  • ▪ Salary range 22,000 to £24,000, dependant on experience.
  • ▪ Contract until May 2025, but with a reasonable expectation that this will be a continuing and developing role over time.
  • ▪ Delivery to be based within local Schools in the Dalkeith cluster, aswell as at the club.
  • Will require a flexible approach to working hours, with a mixture of weekday, weekend, andevening work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate and develop rugby programmes for boys and girls in primary and secondary schools, creating, maintaining and enhancing close links with local schools in order to increase participation and improve pathways in rugby for children and youths.
  • Work with volunteers, schools, club coaches, Scottish Rugby and other external sources to leverage delivery of the programme.
  • Support the delivery of Scottish Rugby coach education programmes and implement education and training opportunities for club coaching volunteers.
  • Raise the profile of rugby and the partner club within the community.
  • Work with club coaches to deliver and implement a long-term player development programme within the club.
  • Work with the clubs’ Youth and Mini squads and their team coaches to maximise player recruitment, enjoyment and retention.
  • Promote the values of Scottish Rugby within the school environment.
  • Assist the club in the planning, delivery and development of Youth and Mini festivals.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver a holiday programme during school holidays (Easter and summer).

Role Specification:

  • Highly motivated and self-driven.
  • Good understanding of and experience delivering rugby participation and rugby development programmes, preferably with children and young people.
  • Capable of inspiring hard to reach groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with key partners and maintain strong relationships.
  • Level 2 UKCC/Aspiring Coaching Programme qualification.
  • Valid first aid certificate.
  • Valid UK driving licence.

The individual will require a PVG for working with children.
