Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland (CGNI) is seeking to appoint a new member of staff who will contribute positively to the organisation as we work with partners in preparation for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Job Title: Sport Performance Manager
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Term: Full-time, permanent. Subject to successful completion of a six-month probation period.
Renumeration: £40k - £50k, commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be based at our Belfast office, but both local and international travel will be required. Irregular hours are anticipated, with evening and weekend working required.
Job Description
The Sport Performance Manager will play a key role in identifying and utilising the resources available within CGNI, SportNI and member governing bodies to maximise performances at Commonwealth Games.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Working with member sports to identify potential Games athletes and staff.
- Assisting with delivery of a Commonwealth Futures Programme to ensure that solid succession plans are in place.
- Assisting member sports to set Games related performance standards and then communicating these standards across the various sports.
- Identifying support service and educational requirements, both prior to and during Games. Connecting coaches and athletes with appropriate service providers.
- Managing the budget for a Governing Body Support Fund.
- Contributing to the design and delivery of a Games holding camp at each Commonwealth Games, as funding permits.
- Working with practitioners to ensure that all athletes and coaches are in the best possible physical and mental condition to perform at Commonwealth Games.
- Management of the Performance Planning Meeting process.
- Attendance at Games recce visits, and Commonwealth Games Federation and Organising Committee events as required. Dissemination of relevant information to sports.
- Acting as a conduit between CGNI and sports to ensure that there is a clear and consistent flow of information.
- Participation on the selection panel which will appoint athletes and coaches.
- Regular communication with the CGNI Athletes Advisory Commission.
- Coordination of support services during Games-time.
- Connecting with other Commonwealth Games Associations to identify best practice.
- Assisting with the development of a supportive Games-time Village environment.
- Leading on sport preparation and delivery matters at Commonwealth Youth Games and Commonwealth Games.
- Specialist projects to support the development of CGNI and any other reasonable duties as requested by the CEO.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of developing athlete performance plans to senior international level.
- Extensive knowledge of the Northern Ireland sporting environment, including CGNI’s stakeholders and across multiple sports, including para-sports.
- Experience of multi-sport Games in a leadership role.
- Budget management experience.
- Knowledge of current best practice within sporting support service provision.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Current passport. Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
- Agreement to participate in appropriate vetting processes and safeguarding and anti-doping education.
