Chinnor Rugby Club are looking to appoint a qualified doctor with relevant sporting/rugby union qualifications to join as the Match Day Doctor/Club Doctor for the upcoming 2024/2025 season, which is Chinnor’s first season in the RFU Championship.

The role includes match day attendance for all first team home and away matches. Home matches will be held at Kingsey Road, Thame, OX9 3JL, with away matches being held at various external venues. The Doctor will also be contactable to offer medical advice, expertise and support as required in liaison with club medical staff. Matches may be held on any day of the weekend subject to fixture list, which could be on a Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The season will run from late August 2024 to end of May 2025.

Typical match day duties will involve working closely with a minimum of 2 physiotherapists/sports therapists per match, and will include:

  • Pre-match extrication practice
  • Conducting Head Injury Assessments (HIAs) protocols during and after matches
  • Assisting the medical team in the extrication of injured players from the field
  • Blood injury management/suturing
  • Medical gas/medication administration
  • Supporting in injury triaging post-game.

The successful candidate will also be expected to:

  • Understand and comply with the RFU Anti-Doping Regulations and WADA List of Prohibited Substances & Methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of any medical interactions with players and staff and associated use of electronic notes system.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of sports and exercise medicine and strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Understand the needs and requirements of a rugby union squad.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best medical practice protocols, including the club’s Emergency Action Plans.
  • Assist in the stock management and checking of medication/equipment on match days.

Required Qualifications (RFU & Championship Rugby Regulations):

  • License to practice by the GMC.
  • Hold appropriate Medical Indemnity Insurance and covered to work within elite rugby union.
  • Demonstrate ongoing engagement with appraisal and relevant CPD.
  • Hold a valid Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport (PHICIS) Level 3 qualification or equivalent or be able to be enrolled on a course.
  • Diploma in Sports Medicine or equivalent higher professional qualification (Desirable)
