The opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our newly established Physiotherapy Team at Cardiff Met University. The team has been created to provide support to our established and successful performance programmes who are competing at the top of university sport and in national leagues. The team will work alongside our already established and highly regarded Strength & Conditioning Team, as well as working with a team of coaches and other support services in a multi-discipline environment.
The Rugby Physiotherapist will;
- Lead the planning, administration and delivery of a robust physio provision for the Men’s Rugby Performance Programme, including but not limited to;
- Pitch-side cover for contact training sessions
- A structured return to play (RTP) process and concussion protocols aligned to RFU and WRU guidance
- Matchday cover for BUCS Super Rugby (Wednesdays) and WRU National Championship (Saturdays)
- Clinic based delivery
- Integration of service provision into full-time pre-season training
- Coordinate the planning of a robust physio provision for the Women’s Performance Programme utilising the wider Physiotherapy Team, academic staff and the student workforce to deliver services.
- Act as the Clinical Governance Lead (CGL) for the programmes and complete associated duties for the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Minimum Operating Standards.
- Our Men’s Rugby Performance Programme compete in BUCS Super Rugby & the WRU National Championship. Our Women’s Rugby Performance Programme compete in the BUCS National League.

As a key member of the rugby programme, this role sits within the Physiotherapy Team, who are part of the Sport Systems Team. In addition to the practical and professional knowledge that is required to implement effective and robust physio support, the candidate will need to be able to engage with our student-athletes to provide them with every opportunity to attain their individual potential. To excel in this role the candidate will need to adopt a flexible approach to engage with coaches and other support staff throughout the rugby programme to enhance our performance environment.
