Cambridge Rugby is recruiting a Physiotherapist to join their medical team. Cambridge Rugby have been promoted to the Championship for the 23/24 season after being crowned National 1 Champions. This is an extremely exciting time to join the club, with rapid growth occurring across all sectors of the organisation.

The Role:

The advertised role is a full-time position that includes a combination of provision to the Cambridge Rugby professional men’s 1st team, as well as clinic work within the onsite private practice – Cambridge Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC).

The rugby aspect of the role is a position embedded within the Cambridge Rugby Performance Team that includes several physiotherapists, S&C coaches, and medical practitioners. You will support the Head Physiotherapist in provision to the 1st team. You will be expected to work heavily in the injury prevention and risk mitigation space, assisting the Head Physiotherapist in devising and implementing solutions to reduce injury burden and maximise player availability. Injury management and rehabilitation is a standard aspect of the role, but is not the sole focus in and of itself. You will also provide pitchside cover at training and matches.

The clinic aspect of the role is a position within CSMC, which is a private practice located onsite at Cambridge Rugby. The practice is a multi-disciplinary sports medicine centre that provides service to the 600-member community section of the club, as well as private patients from the wider community. CSMC offers physiotherapy, massage, S&C, psychiatry, and general medicine. The practice will be expanding into other performance and allied health disciplines over the next 12 months. All members of the Cambridge Rugby Performance Team will be employed in combined rugby–CSMC roles in the 23/24 season.

A summary of what you can expect includes:

  • Clinic and pitch-side provision to Cambridge Rugby, including the professional men’s 1st team as well as the community section of the club. This will involve late evening and weekend work.
  • A progressive performance culture that encourages performance team members to explore possibilities, devise innovative solutions, and grow their role in the direction they desire.
  • A heavy emphasis on building your individual reputation within the community via initiatives such as triage sessions, delivery of educational workshops and seminars, collaboration with external sports clubs and GP practices, just to name a few. We are looking for someone with the drive and confidence to project a positive image into the Cambridge community and to grow their own patient list.
  • A clinical caseload that includes high level and aspiring athletes, general public MSK, older adults, teenagers & children, group sessions.
  • A strong learning environment, where continual clinical and personal growth is expected, and actively facilitated. A key benefit of this role is the structured mentoring from the Performance & Sports Medicine Director Matthew Look who is a physiotherapist with advanced clinical qualifications in Australia and the UK, and who has an extensive history in both professional and Olympic Sport.

The Person:

We are looking for suitably qualified physiotherapists with the personality required for success in professional sport and private practice.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or BSc. Physiotherapy)
  • 2-5 years clinical experience, with at least one year in private practice or sport

Personal Attributes:

  • Creative, open minded and forward thinking.
  • Strong growth mindset and desire to learn.
  • Motivated to earn respect and build their reputation within the community.
  • Driven to take responsibility for their own financial success.
  • Compelled to find performance solutions, initiating changes at the source rather than content with patching up end-product problems.
