Cambridge Rugby is recruiting a Head Physiotherapist to join their performance team. Cambridge Rugby have been promoted to the Championship for the 23/24 season after being crowned National 1 Champions. This is an extremely exciting time to join the club, with rapid growth occurring across all sectors of the organisation.

The Role:

The advertised role is a full-time position that includes a combination of provision to the Cambridge Rugby professional men’s 1st team, as well as clinic work within the onsite private practice – Cambridge Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC).

The rugby aspect of the role is a position embedded within the Cambridge Rugby Performance Team that includes several physiotherapists, S&C coaches, and medical practitioners. You will be leading the physiotherapy provision to the 1st team and will report directly to the Performance & Sports Medicine Director. You will be responsible for coordinating medical personnel for match day cover (including doctors and paramedics), and will be expected to ensure the medical team is compliant with RFU Championship Minimum standards. You will be expected to work heavily in the injury prevention and risk mitigation space, leading the medical team in devising and implementing solutions to reduce injury burden and maximise player availability. Injury management and rehabilitation is a standard aspect of the role, but is not the sole focus in and of itself. There will be a strong learning environment and you will be expected to deliver education to the medical team as well actively engage continuous learning and self-development.

The clinic aspect of the role is a position within CSMC, which is a private practice located onsite at Cambridge Rugby. The practice is a multi-disciplinary sports medicine centre that provides service to the 600-member community section of the club, as well as private patients from the wider community. All members of the Cambridge Rugby Performance Team will be employed in combined rugby–CSMC roles in the 23/24 season.

A summary of what you can expect includes:

  • Responsibility of leading the physiotherapy provision to the 1st team
  • Training and matchday pitchside cover to the 1st team and community programs. This will involve late evening and weekend work.
  • Responsibility for coordinating match day medical staff (including doctors and paramedics)
  • The expectation of close collaboration with coaching staff and S&C team
  • The expectation of a progressive mindset as well as proactivity in developing (and refining) innovative performance processes. This includes processes relating to clinical care, inter-department communication & collaboration, statistical processes, administrational processes.
  • The expectation of fostering of a progressive performance culture that encourages staff to explore possibilities, devise innovative solutions, and allows them autonomy to grow their role in the direction they desire.
  • A heavy emphasis on building your individual reputation within the community via initiatives such as delivery of triage sessions, educational workshops and seminars, and collaboration with external sports clubs and GP practices, just to name a few. We are looking for someone with the drive and confidence to project a positive image into the Cambridge community and to grow their own client list.
  • A clinical caseload that includes high level and aspiring athletes, general public MSK, older adults, teenagers & children, group sessions.
  • A strong learning environment, where continual clinical and personal growth is expected, and actively facilitated.

The Person:

We are looking for a suitably qualified physiotherapist with the personality required for success in professional sport and the private / commercial sector.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or BSc. Physiotherapy)
  • Post graduate degree in Advanced MSK or Sports Medicine is highly desireble
  • 5-8 year’s experience, with at least one year in elite sport
