The role of the British Triathlon Tutor is to deliver British Triathlon coaching qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops. Tutors will be required to deliver in a range of online, classroom and practical settings and to learners with a range of previous educational experiences. Tutors will tailor delivery to the individual needs of each group of learners, using their knowledge of tutoring, coaching & learning styles to create an environment which removes potential barriers to learning.

Specific Duties

  • To deliver online and face-to-face courses and workshops.
  • To be an advocate for British Triathlon and the Home Nations.
  • To create and maintain a safe, supportive, interactive, and enjoyable learning environment in all delivery.
  • To prepare differentiated session plans, taking learners’ needs into account.
  • To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of subject areas and ability to share practical solutions from own experience and other appropriate sources.
  • To use a range of learning activities covering different learning styles.
  • To ensure accurate records of attendance, achievement and evaluation are completed and returned within deadlines to the British Triathlon Coaching team or relevant Home Nation contact.
  • Monitor progress of learners and provide individual feedback, developing appropriate action plans to support further individual learning opportunities.
  • To review own practice, identifying personal action plan and CPD opportunities for each workshop/qualification delivered.
  • To make assessment decisions that are: valid, reliable, and fair based upon the criteria of the qualification specification.
  • To ensure all delivery takes place in accordance with the policies and procedures of British Triathlon, the Home Nations and Awarding Bodies.
  • To attend CPD/standardisation/moderation meetings as required.
  • Engage with relevant staff from the Home Nation coaching teams in relation to course admin.
  • To support the Education and Learning Technical Manager to test, develop, and evaluate new education products to meet the emerging needs of the Triathlon coaching community.

General Duties

  • To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new and alternative systems.
  • It will be necessary to work with information technology and associated systems in accordance with British Triathlon and the Home Nations policies.
  • To co-operate with British Triathlon and the Home Nations in complying with relevant health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.
  • To maintain compliance with British Triathlon and the Home Nations regulations for Safeguarding – including holding a current and valid certificate, and the appropriate online profile being up to date.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with the British Triathlon the Home Nations equality and diversity policy.
  • To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and GDPR and associated guidelines where appropriate.



  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Relevant coaching or technical qualification(s) (see appendix for specific details)
  • Hold or working towards a relevant professional Assessing and/or Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification e.g. L3 CAVA, L4 IQA.
  • Hold or working towards a recognised teaching/tutoring qualification e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent which is mapped to the CIMSPA tutor standard.
  • Qualified to Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE’s at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or Scottish National 5 (grades A to C) and/or relevant industry qualifications.
  • Current UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children (England and Wales) or Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Certificate (Scotland).
  • Evidence of on-going professional development. Desirable
