Gymnastics is embarking on a significant period of change, this is a hugely important and pivotal role for the organisation and its commitment to Education, focusing on shaping the organisations approach to education at all levels. The role will proactively engage all voices across the organisation, gymnastics community and partners to create a positive and athlete-centred approach. This role has the potential to have a significant influence in shaping the educational journey not only in sport in the UK but within gymnastics across the world.

The purpose of this role is to create and deliver a progressive and integrated Education strategy for the sport of gymnastics. Specifically, the role will lead and inspire a broad range of stakeholders, at all levels, to invest in and deliver on a strategy which influences coaches and the broader gymnastics workforce to improve gymnast experiences within the sport. To oversee the development and improvement of existing and new education programmes to ensure they are effective and reflect current/modern learning methods whilst also delivering on the reform 25 programme (British Gymnastics’ action plan to Anne Whyte recommendations).

Main Areas of Responsibility:

1. Create and drive a progressive and integrated Education Strategy:.

Typical Activities:

  • Driving the direction and development of the Education strategy; ensuring a holistic approach is applied to its development and implementation
  • Lead the development of British Gymnastics education strategy, that delivers an end to end educational experience that puts the gymnast at the heart of learning journey, including course content, continuous personal development and mandatory learning
  • Lead on the Coach reforms that respond the recommendations within the Whyte review ensuring they fit within the broader Education strategy that impacts throughout the sport
  • As a member of the senior management team, you will contribute to the strategic development of the organisation, ensuring adherence to British Gymnastics objectives and business plan.
  • Develop the education framework, aligned to external/other sports/industry standards and best practice, to deliver ground-breaking and inspirational education methodology that balances technical and coaching process learning and development
  • Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including UK Coaching, HE institutions, Performance, sports science, clubs, coaches and gymnasts to ensure educational development is at the forefront in a modern sporting environment
  • Develop policies, practices and procedures that are in-line with BG and external requirements and that support they broader organisational strategy

2. Lead the development of innovative Coaching Programmes, overseeing the development of inspiring courses as well as a complementary digital resource

Typical Activities:

  • Support the Education Development Managers’ programme of work and deliverables, ensuring course development is in line with/supporting of key strategic priorities
  • Develop and deliver a suite of CPD learning appropriate to all levels supported by a ‘register’ to ensure coaches continue to meet the needs of modern coaching
  • Overseeing the development and updating of education resources and awards, ensuring they meet course requirements, recognised internal and external standards and the needs of participants
  • Overseeing improvements in the access to learning, including the development of eLearning, online and blended learning solutions and the reduction in the cost of delivery/learning
  • Providing direction for the development, delivery and implementation of digital resources; working closely with project managers and IT to prioritise features, schedule phased release and sustainability

3. Oversee the planning and delivery of education programmes/learning opportunities.

Typical Activities:

  • Support the work programme and deliverables of the delivery managers, ensuring activities and developments are in line with/supporting of key strategic priorities
  • Overseeing the management of the regional and national course programmes, their income streams and expenditure
  • Ensuring a focus on data analysis to inform planning, decision making and drive efficiencies in course organisation processes
