We are looking to recruit a Digital Learning Officer, experienced in instructional design. It’s an exciting time for our Education team as we prepare to launch a new coaching framework, crucial to our mission of ‘Lead our Sport, Inspire our communities’ by providing high quality learning and development to empower our volunteers. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development and creation of these new innovative digital education products. This is a great opportunity for the right person to join us on the ride.

The role will be based in our modern offices at Manchester’s National Cycling Centre, with flexibility to work remotely for part of your working week. The role

This new role Digital Learning Officer will be pivotal in the development of new learning pathways for British Cycling volunteers and role holders. As part of the Education team, you will help create a range of programmes to inspire a nation and encourage the next generation to choose cycling. We offer a range of educational opportunities that are designed to support our paid and volunteer workforce to develop the skills that they need to deliver these cycling activities. The Education team supports the learning of coaches, event officials, instructors, leaders and participants across all disciplines, ages and abilities.

We are keen to hear from candidates that can create engaging and compelling eLearning experiences, working with a range of digital tools and software to achieve a project outcome. Experience of developing educational content is key. You should be able to demonstrate digital learning subject knowledge and application in a variety of contexts within education and/or sport. You’ll build and sustain strong effective working relationships at all levels across British Cycling, taking the initiative and proactively leading on areas relating to programme, product and course development and digital education with creativity and innovation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Pathways – Advise and contribute to the creation and development of education pathways, designing eLearning programmes, creating qualification and assessment specifications, and delivery, assessment and administration materials.
  • People – develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to deliver a learner-centred education programme, specifically for coaches and including event officials, instructors, leaders and participants.
  • Products - Support the development, implementation, and review of British Cycling’s educational products as required.
  • Resources - Support the creation, development and review of e-resources for learners and the wider workforce, including guidelines, manuals, handbooks, course materials and supporting information. Creation of digital content using authoring tools, video and photography to enhance the learner experience.

What you’ll need


  • Experience in developing innovative approaches to digital learning, from planning to delivery
  • Experience of working with a range of digital tools and software to achieve a project outcome
  • Degree in relevant subject, or equivalent experience in Digital and/or Education
  • Knowledge of digital learning within education and/or sport
  • Experience of/passion for creating engaging digital resources with sound knowledge of current trends and best practice
  • Creative flair with strong design and authoring skills, using tools such as Adapt, Storyline and Adobe Premier
  • Understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Experience of administering/ configuring learning platforms to maximise learner journeys
  • Broad experience of Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint and Teams
  • Attention to detail and ability and desire to produce work and products of an exceptionally high standard
  • A self-driven individual with the flexibility to work autonomously or within a team and desire to learn
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and apply an enthusiastic, committed and creative approach


  • Experience of working with a range of industry experts and professionals to achieve a project outcome
  • An understanding of current developments in eLearning
  • An understanding of the cycling landscape
