The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and supportive team to drive a safer, more inclusive culture. The Safeguarding Manager will have a wide remit to lead safeguarding development and embedding throughout the organisation, overseeing and guiding the efficient and effective case management of safeguarding and disclosure checks and developing and maintaining up to date and robust safeguarding policies, procedures, resources and guidance.
The successful candidate will have extensive safeguarding experience and be able to demonstrate a child centred approach. You should be able to work as part of a team, be able to relate well, empathise and communicate with a wide range of people and drive and inspire change at all levels of the organisation.
Role Purpose
To lead safeguarding development and embedding throughout the organisation, including English clubs and centres and the disciplines of Paddlesports. To ensure efficient and effective case management of safeguarding and disclosure checks and provide support to the Director of Governance.
Key Responsibilities
The following are the key elements of the role:
- Ensuring safeguarding is embedded across the organisation, oversee support and advice to clubs, committees and volunteers developing best practice in safeguarding reporting, prevention and training.
- Developing and maintaining up to date and robust safeguarding policies, procedures, resources and guidance.
- Supervising and providing support as required to the Safeguarding Case Officer with the day to day management of safeguarding cases, efficiently and effectively in line with British Canoeing policies, procedures and regulations.
- Preparing relevant case reports and papers in a timely and thorough manner for the consideration of the Safeguarding Case Management Group and Governance and Risk Committee.
- Acting as lead contact with, and presenting cases to, the Safeguarding Case Management Group.
- Working across departments and liaising with external partners to ensure the organisation meets statutory Safeguarding standards, including managing the annual CPSU Framework assessment process.
- Reviewing, developing and ensuring delivery of the Safeguarding Action Plan.
- Acting as Chair of the Home Nations’ Safeguarding Steering Group.
- Supporting the Performance Wellbeing Coach on safeguarding matters for the HighPerformance Programmes.
- Supervising the administration of DBS checks and act as a point of contact for referrals or questions on DBS matters referred upwards by the individual(s) tasked with being the initial point of contact.
- Referring adverse DBS checks to the Safeguarding Case Management Group for their consideration.
This role is based at the British Canoeing offices at National Water Sports Centre in the Holme Pierrepont Country Park. We are currently exploring how hybrid working can benefit the organisation so we would expect a minimum of 2 days in the office with flexibility around days being essential.
