The Role of the Head of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
The Head of EDI is an interim role, covering for the Equity & Inclusion Director. The Head of EDI will manage the EDI Team and work closely with the Board’s lead on EDI, the EDI Mental Health & Wellbeing Steering Committee and EDI Advisory Group. The role is designed to provide strategic and operational leadership to promote and embed inclusivity across Brentford Football Club, both on-field and off-field. The role is responsible for delivering on our EDI strategy and delivery plan, supporting on the Premier League Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Standard (PLEDIS), and enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts across all aspects of Brentford, including staff, players, fans, partners and our community
Main Accountabilities
- Lead on the implementation of our EDI Strategy and EDI Delivery Plan
- Manage the Anti-Racism Inclusive Leadership Programme for the Board and on-field and off-field senior leadership
- Lead on the delivery of the club’s compliance with governing body codes such as the Premier League Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (PLEDIS)
- Co-lead on the delivery of the club’s social causes on Championing Racial Equity and Women & Girls Inclusion
- Manage the EDI Team, which includes the EDI Manager and Events & Engagement Executive
- Manage the Board EDI Mental Health & Wellbeing Steering Committee and external EDI Advisory Group
- Lead on diversity and inclusion data collection and feedback, including regular reporting to the Executive Committee and Board, and the implementation of the diversity data action plan
- Become established as a trusted subject matter expert to inspire employees at all levels to drive prioritisation of and commitment to EDI goals
- Advise executive team on matters related to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Influence and engage a variety of audiences from senior stakeholders to external partners to secure their commitment in delivering our plan
- Be the organisation’s strategic advisor for all EDI elements ensuring our influence and reach is increased and our impact shown through embedding change both internally and externally.
- Act as a role model to drive forward an inclusive and high-performance culture making sure that our values and expected standards of behaviour are embedded across the entire organisation
- Manage the EDI budget and prepare them for approval from the CEO
- Stay on top of trends, laws, and regulations, and other factors influencing EDI best practice

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics
- Forward-thinking and passionate inclusion professional with a proven track record in delivery of EDI strategy and best practice within an organisation
- Previous experience of delivering EDI in a sporting organisation
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
- Ability to operate with credibility at a senior level
- Ability and desire to connect authentically with people at all levels
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and exert a positive influence
- Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and meet budget constraints
- Excellent teamworking and collaboration skills
- Good problem-solving skills with an ability to deal with complex issues with a logical and sensitive approach
- Demonstrable experience of using data and insight to influence and develop delivery plans and game-changing impact internally and externally
- Ability to work some matchdays, including evenings and weekends, to support key events, as required.
- A good understanding of the football industry
Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics
- Professional and/or academic qualification in a related subject
- Previous experience working with the Premier League/EFL, the FA and/or other football industry organisations
