Role Summary

thinkBeyond’s Senior Sustainability Consultant will be an integral part of the team, responsible for bringing their expertise and knowledge to support delivery of our wide portfolio of projects as well as being responsible for the management and delivery of their own portfolio of projects, leading a project team and liaising with clients.

We are looking for someone with specific expertise in the operational delivery of sustainability strategies, embedding this across business operations to internationally recognised standards, e.g., ISO 20121, ISO14001, B-Corp. Knowledge of these standards and industry best practice will be essential to lead the projects and provide our clients with the support, expertise and insights that they have come to expect from thinkBeyond.

The role will primarily be focused on project management and delivery, with an expectation to be able to input into the strategic growth of the business, bringing in new clients and opening new networks.

The role provides an opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to flourish in a fast paced and exciting business dedicated to positive social and environmental impact. They will work with our growing team of industry experts, able to build on their own leadership, project management and delivery skills and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Sustainability Consultant role has three key responsibilities:

1. Expertise and Project Delivery​

  • Drive project delivery for clients, including (but not limited to) discovery, analysis, issue prioritisation, development of strategy, materiality assessments, objectives and target setting, establishing and support delivery of operational plans, monitoring and measurement, tracking against KPIs and internal audit of process and outcomes.
  • Bring a wealth of sustainability knowledge which may be across all or some of the following: environmental management, management systems and evaluation frameworks, carbon accounting, biodiversity and ecology, diversity and inclusion, ESG reporting.
  • Ability to build credible, robust sustainability operational platforms to international standards, specifically ISO 20121 or similar, such as B-Corp.
  • Ability to carry out discovery interviews and internal client audits, communicate effectively, deliver workshops, training, and lead client meetings.
  • Consistently challenge thinking and processes throughout delivery to make improvements.
  • Ability to think outside the box, creatively to build successful, impactful strategies and solutions for clients.
  • Through experience have examples of best practice that you can bring to support the client on their sustainability, purpose-led journey.

2. Project Management

  • Develop a resourcing plan for projects, and work with Director of Sustainability and Head of Client Management to build the project team as needed, ensuring the right expertise is in place.
  • Project manage end-to-end delivery of projects and client work, developing clear project plans, ensuring client’s brief, budget and timescales are met to the high quality our clients expect from us.
  • Use our collaborative project management tools (e.g, EverHour, to track against deliverables, time and resource.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with our clients, being their main contact within the business.
  • Proactively complete initiatives and tasks required for delivery of the project without requiring significant guidance or briefing.
  • Manage all internal and external project communications.
  • Create (including developing copy and managing design, where relevant) key project documents including pitch presentations, delivery plans, progress updates, outcome reports.
  • Engage and manage additional members of the thinkBeyond team (both senior and junior), ensuring they contribute as needed for the timely delivery of the project.
  • Manage key project tasks, including organising incoming information and data, arranging meetings, communicating with key stakeholders.
  • Collect client feedback, and use any insights to proactively improve the client experience.

3. Leadership

  • Seek and support business development proactively identifying “upsell” opportunities with existing clients and potential opportunities to propose thinkBeyond for new work.
  • Represent thinkBeyond at industry networking events, workshops and conferences.
  • Maintain a social media profile that promotes the work of thinkBeyond.
  • Support, when required, wider Benchmark company events and company development.
  • Share knowledge with the thinkBeyond team (and wider as necessary) to enhance others’ knowledge, support delivery, and create learning for the future.
  • Develop your own skills and knowledge for self-development as well as bringing growth to thinkBeyond’s service offering.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Commitment and belief in the ability of sport (and our wider clients) to create social and environmental change
  • 8+ years working experience, ideally within the sustainability sectors and/ or sport sector, although relevant applicants from other backgrounds will be considered
  • Degree or higher in relevant subject or equivalent industry experience, credentials and professional memberships
  • Excellent project management skills, including using project management tools, creating and managing timelines
  • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills supported by strong written and verbal communication skills and a passion for developing trusting-lasting relationships
  • A creative mind and a “think-outside-the-box” attitude with a strong ability to think strategically and develop plans to deliver key objectives
  • Excellent analytical and problem‐solving skills, ability to work efficiently, quickly, and to deadline – there is an immediacy element to our office that runs through everything we do
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently on projects running concurrently, be flexible and adaptable and work independently, calmly and without micro-management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and desire to deliver quality going above and beyond the status quo
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Proficiency with software tools - Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, time management and project management tools
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
