🥇🥈🏀 Purpose of Role

Playing a key role in Basketball England’s participation programme, the Participation Programme Manager is a senior position within our Relationship Team. Responsible for increasing participation working with national and regional strategic partners to support growth through successful delivery of all related projects and events.

This role requires the successful candidate to be able to collaborate with a wide range of partners and to be able to drive forward participation through the following programmes: Slam Jam, Jnr NBA, Satellite Clubs, the Assist Fund, Volunteer Awards and other Club Development Initiatives.

🥇🥈🏀 Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and be accountable for driving sustained growth through a portfolio of customer led participation projects across England achieving clearly defined outcomes.
  • To lead on the strategic management of key projects including but not limited to Slam Jam, Jnr NBA, Satellite Clubs, the Assist Fund, Volunteer Awards and other Club Development Initiatives.
  • Manage the deployment of tutors and recruitment and accreditation of delivery partners and activators to ensure continued growth.
  • Generate customer insight (through working with delivery partners) about participants, coaches and other key factors that make our projects successful to drive a sustainable programme model.
  • To take full responsibility and accountability for monitoring, evaluation and assessing impact of performance of all programmes, projects and events under the participation theme.
  • Identify, establish, develop and maintain strategic partnerships; working jointly to create opportunities which positively contribute towards increasing participation, especially targeting underrepresented and unreached groups.
  • To lead and manage resources and budgets allocated to the respective programme area ensuring successful delivery against key objectives.

🥇🥈🏀 Operational Accountabilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop an annual plan of activity linked to community needs, strategies and KPI’s.
    Project Delivery: to deliver the requirements of the participation projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise to support Clubs and Communities with the development of recreational Basketball facilities.
  • Communications: delivery of frequent key messages and ongoing communications with all internal and external communications across all partners. To think creatively and actively seek out opportunities to raise profile and generate positive new stories. Work closely with the Communications Team to ensure the website and communications information related to participation and programmes is up to date.
  • Decision Making: ability to make appropriate operational decisions to meet the facilities objectives in liaison with your Line Manager and other teams across the business.
  • Service Delivery: Provide operational and project support and act as a first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance: Abide by all of Basketball England’s rules, regulations and policies (Including but not limited to, Equal Opportunities & Equity Policy; Safeguarding Policy; Code of Ethics & Conduct; Anti-Doping, Anti-Betting, Anti-Corruption and Confidentiality).
  • Other duties: Any other duties as required by the line manager that are commensurate with the grade.

🥇🥈🏀 Role Requirements; Experience, Knowledge & skills

Qualifications:

  • A degree in a relevant subject or compensating work experience in a relevant, related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of working in a sports and community development environment with an outcomes-based approach to working.

🥇🥈🏀 Demonstrable experience of:

✓ Project Development / Management: experience developing or supporting the development of participation initiatives, preferably for an NGB or third-sector organisation.
✓ Strategic Planning: Experience of contributing to development and delivery of strategies. In particular able to demonstrate knowledge of local and national strategy in relation to participation.
✓ Relationship Management: building trust and strong relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally, potentially including BE staff and volunteers.
✓ Target Driven: Target driven approach with the ability to meet outlined KPI’s.
✓ Monitoring and evaluation: Managing the operational evaluation and data analysis of programmes.
✓ Customer Support: Ability to adapt and deliver support services to a growing volunteer network that is effective and efficient for the customer.

✓ Communications: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating an ability to communicate upwards to a senior level (including CEO, Directors and the Board) and relate to a wide range of people and organisations in the right appropriate format.
✓ Solution Development: Ability to anticipate issues, problem solve, manage ambiguity and make sound judgements on sensitive matters.
✓ Time Management: Ability to multi-task and prioritise work.

🥇🥈🏀 Technical Skills:

✓ Attention to Detail: An eye for detail with an ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.
✓ Advanced ICT: Significant advanced expertise in the use of Microsoft packages (word, excel, PowerPoint) and other related ICT software.
✓ Numeracy & Literacy: Excellent numeracy, literacy, spelling and presentation in typewritten and other work.

  • A flexible attitude to working, willing to work evenings and weekends as a result of the nature of the role and event timings.
  • Job offers will be subject to completion of a satisfactory, current Basketball England DBS check and completed every three years.

Location: Remote with occasional travel to Manchester
